About DVD-ROMs

DVD-ROM is a wide term used to describe a DVD disc that can have many uses. A DVD-ROM disc is similar to a CD-ROM in it's application but the obvious advantage is storage capacity. The smallest DVD-ROM can hold seven times the amount of date that a CD-ROM can contain.

A single-sided DVD disc, referred to as a DVD-5, holds up to 4.7 gigabytes of information in one layer. By adding a second layer (on the same side) the capacity can be almost doubled. A DVD-9 disc can hold 8.5 gigabytes of data. A two-sided, dual-layered DVD disc has a storage capacity of over 17 GB of information. A two-sided, dual-layered disc must be turned over to play each side.
